Today was a pretty big milestone…it was my very last day of Kindergarten! I learned a bunch and had a lot of fun making new friends, but I’m looking forward to the fun, fun summer. Next up, 1st grade!
We were up early on Saturday and in the car to sync up with the Lafayette Lawsons & Aunt Jill on a day trip to Ohio. After a few hours in the car, we all tumbled out of the car at the Cincinnati Union Terminal to visit all of the museums in that huge building! Right out front was the welcoming party for their newest exhibit…Dinosaurs! That was first on our list, so we headed downstairs and jumped back about 250 million years to see the huge lizards. These were just robots, but they looked and sounded really, really, really real. So real that it too everyone a little while to get their bearings and feel comfortable. But, once we did, we were running the remote control units and making them blink, wiggle, and roar!
Next up was the Duke Energy Children’s Museum. We all really liked the water area and the crazy woods playground, complete with log tunnels and tree houses. The mini town was especially awesome! Riley and Taylor shopped in the grocery store and I ran the cash register (with one arm!).
After spinning through the rest of the exhibits, we grabbed some grub and then jumped over to the Natural History museum. We were greeted by the mastodon skeleton and polar bear, then went through the time machine back to 1790, 1890, and 1990 to see how people lived waaaaay back in those years! Then, a quick jaunt through the human body exhibit before going down in to the caverns. We skipped the bat cave but made the best of the glacier, including the ice cave. Finally, we rounded out the visit by admiring the awesome model train exhibit that had all of the buildings and monuments of downtown Cincinnati.
Next up was the visit to IKEA. Riley, Taylor, and I all went to the play area and hung out without the parents for a while. Parks was still a little on the “vertically challenged” side, so he opted for a nap in the shopping cart with the parents. By the time the Mommies and the Daddies hit the main floor, it was time to pick up us girls and finish the rest of the crazy Scandinavian store. It had been a really big day, and Parker wasn’t feeling up to experiencing any more that Ohio had to offer, so we packed it in and headed home.
The parents all agree that everyone was so super great and played so well together all day. I can’t wait until we get another chance to do something like this again!
Well, right up front I would like to say that nobody broke any bones this weekend, so we’re moving in the right direction! It wasn’t completely uneventful, though, because Thursday at school I fell down during recess and landed on my arm. So, Mommy came to scoop me up and take me back to the ER to get checked out. Everything looked as good as could be, which is to say that my arm is still broken, but isn’t any more broken. I gave everyone quite a scare, though!
Friday was Gigi Day, so she came down…but didn’t bring Krispy Kreme donuts! They closed the doors on their icing covered operations. But, Gibby’s to the rescue…those fluffy fried rings of goodness really hit the spot! I went to school while Gigi and Parks hung out. When school was over, those too goofballs picked me up and we headed north to Lafayette to spend the night! The Clarian Arnett company picnic was supposed to happen on Saturday, so we wanted to be their bright and early for the festivities. But, it ended up being canceled due to rain. No worries, though, because we hooked up with our favorite cousins Riley and Taylor for a weekend play date! We partied down while Mommy and Daddy took care of a few errands in the morning, then came over to hang out and then take us back home to our beds. We were exhausted from all the fun, but the weekend didn’t end there. Check out Parker’s update for Part 2 of the saga!
P.S. – here are a few pictures that never made it out to the site. These are of Parker and I making yummy lasagna for Mommy on Mother’s Day. These were taken just a few hours before “the arm incident”.
Momma Post: Today we saw the doctor and BIG NEWS….no cast required! The doctor said that of all bones and ways to break a bone, it was the best break to have (our luck is changing!). I have to say, the x-ray looked pretty intense, but that’s why he’s the doctor and not me! She will be in a sling for about 4 weeks he estimates. He said after about 2 weeks, and the new wearing off, it will be hard to keep her in it because she won’t have any or very little pain, but it will still be a weak area and could easily be broken again by falling on it or reinjuring it somehow before it is fully repaired-about 8 weeks from now. No sports this summer…I guess tackle football is out for now!
I took her back to school for a little while just to get “normal” again! But as pointed out by several of my teacher friends…”is there really a ‘normal?’”
A very short but informative update. On Saturday, Momma went shopping in Indy while Daddy, Parks and I whipped up a very special Mother’s Day dinner…Lasanga! Afterwards, Daddy put Parks down for a nap, I decided to swing on my swing set and Daddy got down on some mowing…well two swipes when all craziness broke loose. You see, I was swinging pretty high when my sweatshirt began to fall off. I let go with one hand to grab it…and you know the rest….I fell to the ground! Hard! Daddy came and scooped me up. I couldn’t move my arm, so he wrapped it up with my sweatshirt, got Parks, and we headed to the ER. Good thing because as it turns out…I broke my arm! An x-ray confirmed a break high up on my arm but below my shoulder. The doctor gave me some pain medicine and a sling until I go the ortho doctor on Monday. No surgery was needed as first thought by the ER doctor, but Monday’s visit will let us know if I have to have a cast or ride it out in my sling. Either way, I’m pretty done with the whole not being able to do everything I used to do thing.
Momma Note: After riding around Meijer in a movie cart, Morgan exited to get ready to walk out to the car. A very nice lady looked at her and said, “I hope you feel better soon!” After the lady had walked a little ways, Morgan turned to me and said, “It’s about time somebody noticed!”
