Happy 6th Birthday

6 years old?!? Wow, even to say it out loud doesn’t help to make it seem real. The last year has seen a lot of new and exciting things, and you have been at the foundation of so many of those. Not least of which is that you’re now officially a grade schooler. It is right across the street from your old day care, but it seems like a whole new world! We’re so proud of how well you’re doing in school and are, as we always have been, astonished by your thirst for knowledge and sponge-like ability to soak it up. When you read and write, we can feel an energy radiating off of you as you learn how to express yourself in new ways.

Another tremendous quality that has really blossomed in the past year is your compassionate and caring heart. A fish, hermit crabs, Zip the hamster…you treat them in a way that makes it easy to recognize your loving nature. What warms our hearts the most, though, is to see how you care for your stinky little brother. You take so much pride in teaching him new things and taking him under your wing to show him the way of the world. I hope that you have the joy to one day know how it makes a parent feel to see the people they love the most love each other so much. For as lucky as we feel to have you around, Parker is blessed to have a big sister like you.

This year just like last year, Mommy and Daddy will probably spend the next week getting lost in your old blog posts and pictures from years ago. And, next year just like this year, we’ll be looking back on this letter to you as you turn 7, wondering how it is possible to love you an ounce more than we do now. And, just like every year, we’ll discover that you found a way to make it happen.
